Corey D. Hatchet Sr. is Pastor and founder of House of Refuge International Church, which came to fruition on Sunday, November 7, 2004.  The church’s mission is to “Reach and Make Disciple Making Disciples for Christ!” As a church, HRIC believes in prayer, teaching the word of God, fellowship (connecting), breaking bread (coming together around a meal), and having fun along the way.

At the heart of Pastor Hatchet and HRIC, is to reach the unreachable, underserved, and often overlooked. Pastor Hatchet birthed a campaign in 2014 to “Conquer the 21216” area that entails healing a community that has suffered brokenness, crime, grime, drug addiction and distribution, blight, and abandonment. Pastor Hatchet believes strongly in the importance of family, and loving passionately mankind. He believes that spiritual guidance, love, faith, and compassion, with a willingness to help are the key components, to make a difference in the lives of people.

Pastor Hatchet is a member of the Coppin Heights Community Development Corporation (CHCDC) clergy  caucus and the Rosemont Community Inter-faith Coalition (RCIC) in which both organizations have concentrated on bringing redevelopment, education, empowerment, and nurture along with proving basic needs to help disadvantaged communities in Baltimore reclaim their long forgotten prominence.

Pastor Hatchet found the apple of his eye in Tonya Hatchet and married her in 1994. He and his wife, Lady Tonya Hatchet, lead the flock hand in hand with the Love of Christ. They have four beautiful children: India, Jasmyne, Cortneh’, and Corey, Jr. and two grandchildren Landon,  Logan, and Kehlani. Pastor Hatchet is a man of integrity who leads by example humbly at the feet of Christ.
